Cook Symbian Custom Firmware: Firmware Files Extracting

We have all the firmware files and little information what are they now. Next step will be extract the files to our computer. To do that we need an rofs extractor. There are few tools that can do that , some are command line utilities and som other have gui. I will be using an nice tool from PHNT group called NokiaEditor. The application is free and in beta stage. You can grab my copy from here

Extract the zip to a folder and run the executable NokiaEditorb7.exe. Now click open menu item and select the firmware file you need to extract.

Now click extract menu, it may take few seconds and application may become unresponsive be patient till it says extraction finished.

the files are extracted to the folder rofs2 or fat 16 depending on the file you choose like rofs2 or uda.

Now we have the extracted files with us. Next post we will start editing the files. 🙂

  1. Very informative article. I’ve found your blog via Bing and I’m really happy about the information you provide in your articles. Btw your blogs layout is really messed up on the Kmelon browser. Would be cool if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the good work!
